The multicultural CONfusion choir, which I run, is made up of refugees and locals who sing a popular repertoire of differing musical traditions, contemporary music, jazz, pop…
The main objective of this project is to facilitate the social inclusion of refugees. Through popular songs of different musical traditions people ( singers and audience) discover universal themes: love, death, homesickness, hope…human destiny.
The music allows the singers to connect and deeply communicate without words with each other as well as with the audience. A choir is a team: singing together requires commitment and cooperation to create a new work of art.
The project seeks to facilitate relationship, coexistance and social cohesion, and to ensure that diversity is seen as a source of social and cultural vitality.
The project is organised by Catalyst, Teatro Puccini in Florence and the Centro di Documentazione Interculturale dell’Associazione Progetto Accoglienza, supported by SPRAR e promoted by Borgo S. Lorenzo Town Council.
